Brief History

Rafi started playing the guitar at the age of 12. He formed his first band at 13 and had his first performance with that band at a talent competition before a crowd of 200 people. They played all original songs that he wrote along with his band.

Rafi began performing and writing music professionally in 1997 with his band Poopan (Now known as Proper). Poopan plays a mix of Funk, Reggae, Drum N Bass, and World Grooves and experiments with different sounds and musical feels. They have shared the stage with top national acts, such as Black Eye Peas, Mix Master Mike, Xzibit, Pennywise, and more.

His band Poopan started releasing their own CDs and selling them independently at shows and at various record stores around California in 1998. In 2001, they also started selling their CDs online through CDBaby.com, which is the largest online music retail store for independent artists.

In 2004, Rafi released his solo CD, "Desert Cruising in a Dub State of Mind." The CD is a mix of Latin, Reggae, and Middle Eastern influenced instrumentals. He sells his music as an independent artist at performances, various record stores, and also through his online music retailer, CDBaby.com.

Thoughts, Goals, and Visions

Rafi prefers selling his music independently, he says, "so I can have creative freedom and not compromise the music and the artistic side of things. I know that there are always people out there who appreciate good music and who are looking for all kinds of music that might not necessarily be defined as mainstream music."

He loves listening to many different styles of music from all over the world. "This is one of the reasons why you'll hear many different feels and influences in my music," he says. "I think every style of music has something special about it. Each style makes me feel something different. Being open-minded and listening to all kinds of music keeps things fresh and exciting for me."

As for his goals, he says: "I want to always be growing as a musician and to keep on writing and exploring different feels, sounds, and styles of music. It's important to me to write good and quality soulful music and to give something positive to my fans." " The most important thing to me is that my music helps uplift people and helps them forget about their stress for a little while"." If I manage to do that with my music, I feel that one of the most important goals was accomplished".
